MAD MONKEY
BOOK A LESSON
A golf company from Charleston, South Carolina — built by a man who has already seen your swing, and forgiven it.
CHARLESTON, S.C. · PAR IS A SUGGESTIONGolf is the most beautiful absurdity mankind has ever agreed to take seriously. We iron our trousers. We whisper on television. We write 7 when we mean 9. And then — collared, creased, composed — we attempt to strike a ball the size of an egg with a stick traveling a hundred miles an hour, and we top it forty yards into a pond.
That, friend, is the monkey.
The monkey is in all of us. It is in Tiger. It is in the club champion who rehearses his trophy speech in the shower. It is in the 30-handicapper at the muni who just bought his third consecutive “forgiving” driver, and in the scratch player at a club so exclusive its members deny being members. Strip away the yardage book, the rangefinder, the six-hundred-dollar putter, and what remains? A primate. Swinging a stick. Absolutely convinced that this time will be different.
We put ours in a tuxedo because that is exactly what golf is: the whole animal, dressed for dinner. Refined enough for the member-guest. Honest enough to know what's under the cummerbund. Black tie on the outside; banana on the inside.
So Mad Monkey is for golfers who love this game and refuse to be solemn about it. The ones with a speaker in the cart and a cocktail in the cup holder. The ones who will needle a friend about one shank for eleven years, and would also give him a kidney. Scratch or thirty. Private or muni. Ten million in the bank, or seventy-five dollars for one great shirt.
If you can laugh at yourself between the ropes, you're already one of us.

Drop 001 is at the embroiderer. Club-grade fabric, a tuxedoed monkey on the chest, and nothing solemn anywhere on the garment.
Send Bob your swing. He watches every frame, tells you the truth, and talks you off the ledge — right on the film.
Create an instruction account, upload one swing or your whole miserable range session, and tell Bob what's going on. Every video becomes a thread — your notes and his, back and forth, against the footage.

A standard lesson covers whatever is broken — driver to short game. You leave with a swing you can repeat, and a reason to believe it.

Stories from a life inside Charleston golf — the pro shop, the range, the members you'll never forget and the ones you've tried to. Guests from the troop. No swing tips you didn't ask for. First episodes drop when they're good.
Currently being plotted on a cocktail napkin of considerable importance.
Bob Merryman. Two-plus decades as a Charleston-area club pro. One albatross. Zero interest in pretending this game is easy.
Mad Monkey is what happens when a career club pro — pro shops, lesson tees, tournament boards, a simulator club built through a pandemic — sells the building, keeps the knowledge, and finally says the quiet part out loud: we are all just monkeys swinging a golf club.
It starts with merch worth wearing. Then a podcast. Maybe a league, if the napkin survives. Underneath all of it, the same thing Bob has done his whole life: helping people fall back in love with an impossible game.
